1. Can you please say something about the present status of ‘Santali poetry’? In our culture, poetry comes after music. In early days, like the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore, the poems of Sadhuramchand Murmu, Gorachand Tudu had rhythms in our Santali literature. But nowadays it becomes free verse. In Santali literature the poetry becomes more popular than the other genres.
2. Do you think nowadays the modern readers or the young readers are influenced
by the Santali poems?
As I see in the magazines, the future of Santali poetry is absolutely bright. The readers are more influenced by the poetry than the other genres of our literature. They are really interested in the poetry.
3. Please tell me what inspires you to become a poet of Santali language?
From my childhood, I have translated the poems of Sadhuramchand Murmu, Sarodaprasad Kisku, Gorachand Tudu, Thakurprasad Murmu from Santali to Bengali and from Bengali to Santali I have translated the poems of Rabindranath Tagore and especially Jibanananda Das.
I have also translated from Hindi to Santali. I am inspired by these writings. My poetry also becomes free verse day-by-day.
